Clean Eating on the Go – Panera Bread

Do you ever wonder what you can eat in a hurry while you’re on the go? How easy is it to run through the drive-thru and grab a burger and fries? Pretty darn easy. But how bad is it for your waistline and goals? I think you know the answer to that.

Not having food readily available at your fingertips makes eating healthy a little difficult. BUT, with the majority of people owning smart phones nowadays, all you have to do is click a few links and wah-lah, health at your fingertips.

I thought it might be helpful every now and then to give you guys some ideas of healthy items to order while you’re out running errands or even out to eat with friends and family.

Today, as shown on my blog title, we’re discussing Panera Bread.

I l.o.v.e. Panera, and I’m guessing a lot of you readers do too. But the calories in thick breads are outrageous sometimes. Add those calories with the sauces… yeesh. Well, Panera actually has a nutrition calculator on their website so you can build your meal ahead of time, knowing exactly how many calories and of what source (fat, carbs, protein) they’re coming from.

The following is just one thing I’ve eaten from there so far that is actually pretty darn good for you (minus the sodium).

Clockwise starting at top left:

Smoked Turkey Breast on Country: You wouldn’t believe how good this tastes and it doesn’t have any calorie-laden sauces – just turkey, lettuce, tomato, and onion.

Pickle Spear: Only 5 calories but extra 410mg of sodium.

Apple: They offer you a choice of chips, bread, or apple as a side. That’s an easy pick.

Large Acai Berry Iced Tea: We all know this is a favorite of mine.

All together this meal clocks in at 510 calories with 3g fat, 88g carbs, and 33g protein.

It’s realistically a couple hundred calories and twice the amount of carbs over what a normal meal would look like for me BUT it beats a greasy cheeseburger and fries from a restaurant any day.

Happy eating! =)

Live healthy. Live happy.

**Question of the day – What do you normally order from Panera?

I always get the Thai Chopped Chicken Salad. It has chicken and edamame. And has so much flavor with the tiny peanut drizzle that you don’t even need the dressing they put in there too! I get it without the crispy wanton strips.
