Remember the other day when I talked about Qnexa, the magic weight loss pill, that really causes more harm than good? I’ve got another one for you today. This is nothing new and I’m sure many of you have heard of it. It’s called – the HCG diet.
HCG stands for human chorionic gonadotropin. According to weight loss (found on wikipedia):
A controversial usage of hCG is as an adjunct to the British endocrinologist Albert T. W. Simeons’ ultra-low-calorie weight-loss diet (less than 500 calories)… He reasoned that hCG must be programming the hypothalamus to do this in the former cases in order to protect the developing fetus by promoting mobilization and consumption of abnormal, excessive adipose deposits. Simeons later published a book entitled Pounds and Inches, designed to combat obesity. Simeons, recommended low-dose daily hCG injections in combination with a customized ultra-low-calorie (500 cal/day, high-protein, low-carbohydrate/fat) diet loss of adipose tissue without loss of lean tissue. After Simeons’ death, the diet started to spread to specialized centers and via popularization by individuals, such as the controversial author Kevin Trudeau, famous for promotion of alternative therapies and treatments.”
Can we all see the obvious wrongful behavior with this?
a) Who wants to inject or digest a pregnancy hormone?
b) Who wants to eat 500 calories a day?
c) Who wants to OR can tolerate either of those things for the rest of their lives?
NEWS FLASH!! Do you really think that shot is helping? umm HELLOOOO… you’re trying to live on 500 calories a day. How many days do you think you can survive doing that before your body crashes on you? Heaven forbid you add exercise to the formula. oyveh.
When I first started this post I was thinking… how can places be selling this over the counter drug with no questions asked? Well… the same way they sell cancer in a box.
Are you really THAT desperate to lose weight that you will risk your health to do it?
Tough love – you’re going to gain that weight back. And you’re going to gain a whole slew of health problems too. I don’t think that’s what you wanted, was it?
Wake up. Take responsibility for your actions. No one can hold your hand through life.
Work hard for what you want and the benefits will be THAT MUCH more enjoyable!
